Awkward and Awesome.

-Sometimes you just have to cry. Can I get an Amen, ladies? Well, when I was driving the horrible 3 hour drive from Raleigh to Charlotte, in pouring rain, with a headache, and realized about half way in that I left something back in Raleigh that I absolutely needed, and then had to drive back, I found myself sitting in my car in a Firebird’s parking lot crying a seriously not-cute cry to my understanding husband. About 3 hours later when I was still in the car, not yet at my destination, but rather s l o w l y making my way through traffic I yet again couldn’t resist letting the flood gates down and letting the tears flow. It was bad. And at the end of my 5 and a half hour car ride I arrived home with a headache, a neck ache, a sore behind, and puffy eyes. Man oh man I will not be missing that drive.

-As I now know. I’m allergic to Gain Apple Mango Tango detergent. $15 right down the agitating drain. On the flip side, now we can splurge on the Tide and feel pretty good about it.

– In our old apartment we lived above a man name Joe. I only know this because of the nasty note he once left us, not because we ever spoke. Joe apparently felt the need to leave us a note on our door step one morning telling us that he was terminally ill with cancer and slept a lot and that we were disrupting him with our “loud project” (We’re about 90% sure the issue was our washer and dryer.. sorry, but sometime’s a girl’s gotta start the dryer at 10:30pm). We also believe that Joe once ripped open a bag of trash we left outside our front door before taking it up to the dumpster. Aside from all that, I kind of always worried that Joe was going to die in his apartment and we’d never know, and I’d just be living above a dead person. Now that we no longer live there, and we now live above a young lively-looking man, I just kind of worry that Joe is going to die in his apartment and there will be no one living above him to slowly begin to figure out that the strange smell invading the place is Joe.

– You guys. I touched the Titanic. And as I shoved my hand down inside that little tiny hole in the display box and reached out my long fingers to touch a piece of history, I felt the connection. And I’ve never felt closer to Leonardo DiCaprio then at that exact moment. I’ve been wanting to go to the Titanic exhibit at the Natural History Museum for a while now and Clint and I finally made our way there. On the surface, it was a let-down. However, as an absolute fanatic of The Titanic (the movie) I just imagined that it was Jack and Rose who sipped tea from the tea cups on display. There were actually a LOT of pieces recovered from the ship but none of it really wowed me. Actually, if it wasn’t for that small piece of ship I got to make contact with, I’d likely call the whole thing a bust, but hey, I touched the Titanic and that makes me a happy lady. Also, we received cards on our way in that assigned us a character. We each had a back story and some info about our new titanic-riding selves. I was a New York lady who was in England purchasing my wedding dress, headed back to the States in 2nd class and traveling all by my lonesome. Clint was a Husband and Father of three, traveling in 3rd class. I survived the sinking, he did not. He didn’t check to see if his wife or children survived so I’m pretty sure this is what happened. We fell in love on board the ship, he abandoned his family during evacuations to be with me and selflessly gave up his own life so I could go on to live out my dreams. Or… he and his family got locked below deck and embraced each other as they drowned.

-Sometimes I actually get a shopping cart at Target that doesn’t have a squiggly, wobbly, pirouetting wheel and I’m able to smoothly navigate through the store without a squeaking echo. It’s the little things.

-This is my last week as an official Raleigh resident. If you even kind of read this blog, you know that makes me a happy happy happy person.

-The Sermon from our church this Easter Sunday was incredible. Absolutely the best yet. And you can go watch it right here. The final monologue had me in tears, and the response of people accepting Jesus as their savior, beautiful.

What’s been awkward and awesome lately?

Fashion Friday.

This week I am officially eating my words. Once upon a time I uttered words that went a little something like this… “Leggings are the worst, people just need to put some pants on, seriously!”

I’ll go ahead and assume it was the four years of college in which I had every other co-ed’s bum bopping around campus, showing off just how many people really don’t understand that leggings are not pants. The legging overload averted my desire to ever put on a pair myself. Now that I’m nearly two years detached from the days of college (and even though I live in a city stacked to the rim with Universities) I found myself standing in my closet the other night wearing an outfit that I just could not get right… it needed leggings. I knew it. The Mr knew it. Even our little kitty knew it. Fast forward an hour and the two of us are standing in Target trying to decide if black or navy jeggings is the way to go (we went with black- I would have gone navy but sometimes I have to trust the husband’s eye and let him be my stylist). So now, here I sit, very comfortably, in my jeggings. They are kind of fantastic. I still contend that any and all leggings need to be paired with a top that doesn’t show off one’s derriere, and I think they are pretty inapro-pro for the gym, but for a comfy-cozy but still want to feel put-together kind of day… they’re perfect.

Fashion Friday.

Moment of truth: I currently am wearing seriously destroyed jeans and a running jacket. And no, I will not be making you look at pictures of it. However, I did have a Fashion Friday planned for last week that I never got around to posting so I figured you all wouldn’t mind if it just let it bounce on over to this week. And I must have a savvy shopper bragging moment. My pants. They are amazing. They are from J. Crew- meaning they actually fit my long and lean body the way clothes are supposed to fit, they’ll actually last more than a season (sorry Target, but your fabrics aren’t always the best), and that they would literally cost me an arm and a leg to get into them. However, this lady went shopping the day after Christmas, braved the crowds of determined returners and snatched up these $149 pants for a solid $20. I’m so proud of this purchase I could just burst.

Taking one back for the thrifty shoppers.

First off, these were my school colors for elementary and middle school so I kind of feel the need to say, Go Wildcats! (I have no idea if my elementary school had or has a mascot). Second of all, NO, my shirt is not on backwards, and congratulations, you are the one millionth person to ask!! You win a snarky look and a view at me and my buttons as we walk away singing “with silver buttons buttons buttons, all down her back back back”. And lastly, I understand that it’s a part of the name but these particular flats just make my feet look so… flat. I have a pretty serious anti-heel mentality (no need to be any taller over here folks) but I can’t help but look at this outfit and notice how flat my feet look, and therefore how my outfit basically just runs itself right into the ground. And now I know you’ve all just looked at my flat feet which just makes it worse.

Also, I finally figured out how to get rid of those annoying littler borders around my pictures (I actually invested time in this) and managed to use some of my coding skills that I stressed over like no other in college. I even had an a-ha! moment where I said, hey, that web-development class did prove to be useful! Then today I was messing with my little picture loading thing and noticed that you can simply set the border to 0. Like, you just type in a little 0. It kind of crushed me a bit. I’m actually going to pretend it’s not an option for a while longer and I’m choosing to code it in and imagine that I actually could create a web site if need be.

What has your winter style looked like?

Wish List Wednesday.

I tend to forget that I have a photo booth on my laptop. When I remember we find ourselves with pictures that look like these. There are many more of Clint seriously refusing the photo booth.

Anyways. Here’s my wish list for this week!

Hats, Jacket, Scarf, Sweater, Sweater

I didn’t realize this until after I had gathered all the photos together, but apparently I’m in a coral/red mood today. I also was searching for lots of chunky, snuggly, comfy things.

Hats– I love these hats with their cute little poof balls!! They are actually from the Gap who is showing signs of actually having a good holiday line this year. They’ve got some equally as cute scarves on their website, so you can go check those out. These are priced pretty well (under $20!) and I’m a big fan of the colors they offer them in… nothing too crazy. I have a couple of cute little hats but some of them are so colorful and out there I don’t feel like I can wear them with as much. Those three up there would look great with tons of colors so they offer more versatility- and bang for your buck!

Jacket– If I was a rich girl, na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na. That’s the tune I’m singing to myself while I drool over this coat. Why do you do this to me J. Crew!??!! Why?! You make these incredible pieces of clothing that fit every single person just right, and look incredible. And then you make me give you an arm and a leg to have it. (While I’m on this.. seriously, has anyone else noticed how much more expensive this place has gotten lately?) This jacket is just winter perfection. I can see the snow falling around me while I do twirls in this trench. It’s so lovely I can’t hardly stand it.

Scarf– Someone, anyone, please buy me this scarf. please. Madewell has decided to name the color of this scarf, antler. Which I think means that Santa had a little input on this baby. I’m a super fan of the circle scarf but this one truly takes it to a whole new level- the flannel lining! I have maybe, possibly, already begun brainstorming outfit ideas to accent this seriously super scarf.

Multi-Color Sweater– There are many days that I walk into my closet and just want to throw on a sweater and have it all be done. That’s what I did today. But my sweater is boring and just plain green and 100% not an outfit maker. This multi-color sweater is most definitely an outfit maker and that’s why I need it. Throw on a pair of jeans, some boots and this easy peasy sweater and wham bam, done and done. And I can kind of also see this with my red jeans.. like a full on ombre outfit. It has potential to be amazing.

Holiday Sweater-So last year I bought my sister a Holiday-style sweater from J. Crew for Christmas that had moose/reindeer or some other winter animal on it. Ever since then I’ve been jealous and wanting to snatch one up of my own. This one is pretty simple (and inexpensive) and again, it makes for a complete outfit made simple. I imagine me wearing this sweater, Clint wearing this (ha!), as we sit around our fireplace sipping hot coco, singing along to Christmas carols and watching a Charlie Brown Christmas. (He actually hates Snoopy- ?!?? I know, right?!)

That’s what I’m wishing for this week!

What are you all wishing for?!!

Fashion Friday.

Yesterday I tried something that I’ve been wanting to give a go at for quite some time. The, dress, tights, boots, look. I always love how it looks on other people but have been hesitant to try it myself. And I always feel like my dresses are just a bit too much for a look like these. I needed something casual. So about a month back when I spotted this dress on the 75% off rack at Target I snatched it up. It was $7! It also was a medium, so I got the chance to pull out my sewing skills and do a bit of altering to make this a bit more flattering. I liked that it was dark yet had tons of color. Plus, since the base color is black I knew I’d be able to pair a dark set of tights (which I already had) with it. Also, prepare yourselves for some serious sun flare… sometimes we take these Fashion Friday pics at just the right time.

What do you all think?
Did I get it right?!

What are some trends you want to try this fall/winter?
